Your Peaceful Home

Every family has the right to live in a Peaceful Home filled with the joy and presence of the Lord.

It is God’s desire that our homes be places of peace, rest, love, and safety. So why is it that many times we come home after a stressful day to a home filled with tension, strife, arguing, unrest, or heaviness? Why do some homes seem to lack peace and true rest?

The Bible helps us understand that there can be spiritual influences affecting individuals, families, and even homes.

What Does Scripture Say?

Ephesians 6:12 tells us – “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

John 10:10 adds – “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”

And I Peter 5:8 makes it very clear – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

God’s Word also reveals that land and property can become spiritually defiled through sin — whether through our own actions or through the sinful activities of previous occupants. These spiritual influences can sometimes contribute to unrest, fear, oppression, conflict, unhealthy atmospheres, or a lack of peace within a home.

Through prayer, repentance, forgiveness, spiritual cleansing, and exercising the authority Jesus Christ has given believers, homes can experience renewed peace, freedom, and the presence of God.

Biblical Examples of Things That Defile the Land

The Bible identifies certain sinful practices that bring spiritual defilement and judgment upon the land. Below are several Scriptures you may prayerfully study and reflect upon:

  • Incest / Sexual Immorality — Leviticus 18:6–19
  • Adultery — Leviticus 18:20
  • Child Sacrifice, Divination, Abortion, and Idolatry — Leviticus 18:21
  • Homosexuality — Leviticus 18:22
  • Bestiality — Leviticus 18:23

You may be thinking, “My family and I have not committed these sins, so why should we be concerned about our property?” I understand that question.

However, God’s Word teaches that land can become defiled not only through our own sin, but also through the sins committed on that property by previous occupants.

“You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations… for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled; lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.”

— Leviticus 18:26–28

This is not something to take lightly. Spiritual doors can be opened when sinful activities, ungodly practices, or demonic influences are allowed access into our lives, families, homes, or property.

As believers, we must spiritually guard our homes and families. We must establish healthy spiritual boundaries and exercise the authority Jesus Christ has given us over our hearts, homes, land, possessions, and families.
